More Information About Becoming Debt Free

I've always had bad credit. My parents gave me a credit card when I was a teenager and I did not understand what credit was or how it worked. I used the credit card and almost always was at my limit. Once it got denied, and I figured out that my parents were not always keeping up on the payments. I learned then what bad credit was because I had it, and it was too late. I wanted to build good credit, but as a student I spent a lot more money than I made for over four years. By the time I got out of college I owed a lot of people a lot of money. I got every credit card I could and was very careful about not using them for much and immediately paying off the whole bill at once. Over time I built my credit so that I could get more loans and pay off my student loans that were racking up interest. Soon enough I became debt free by consolidating my bills and paying them all off at once with the help of a loan from my bank. Now I still owe money to the bank, but my monthly payments are affordable and manageable. By using a company with free debt consolidation I saved money without spending any. It's possible. Look at me. -George Loftus, Kalamazoo

We always heard ads on t.v. telling us get debt free but every time we looked into consolidation we found some fine print that seemed like it would just cost us money. I wouldn't consider myself cheap, but I find it a bit ridiculous to pay someone to save me money. I guess you pay for everything these days. I tried to get debt free on my own, and I did a good job. Then I found a non-profit company and they helped me to get debt free without charging me. I am not debt free yet but my payments are under control and I don't feel so helpless anymore. Soon I'll be debt free and out of prison. -Edwin Moses, St. Louis
